Rangers emerge as rising suitor for Yankees’ Miguel Andujar

Brian Cashman has said that he received “a lot of interest” in Miguel Andujar at the GM meetings last month.

As the winter meetings approach next week, one team that is “definitely intrigued by the possibility” of trading for the Yankees’ rehabbing third baseman is the Rangers, according to MLB.com. The site noted that the Rangers have the high-quality bullpen arms that could attract the Yankees.

The 24-year-old Andujar appeared in just 12 games last season before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery on May 20. The previous year, he had emerged as potent offensive weapon, finishing second in the AL Rookie of the Year voting after finishing with 27 homers, 47 doubles, 92 RBIs and a slash line of .297/.328/.527.

Videos were posted to Andujar’s Instagram story on Nov. 20 showing him taking grounders at third base, making throws to first and taking batting practice.

Cashman also said in November that third base is Gio Urshela’s “position to lose” and he’s wondered whether Andujar could play another position, such as first base. Urshela played excellent defense and produced tremendous numbers as Andujar’s replacement in 2019, finishing with a slash line of .314/.355/.534 with 21 homers and 74 RBIs.
